Brighton Park Elementary is proud to be a Leader in Me School. Leader in Me is an evidence-based PK-12 model, developed in partnership with educators and designed to designed to build leadership in students, create a high-trust culture, and improve academic achievement
We focus on developing the whole child by:
  • Teaching leadership to every student.
  • Creating a culture of student empowerment.
  • Aligning systems to drive results in academics.
We use two frameworks in our work as a leadership school:
  1. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People helps us learn and apply leadership skills and gives us a common language for building a supportive school environment.
  2. The 4 Disciplines of Execution helps us to identify, track, and achieve academic and personal Wildly Important Goals (WIGs).

Common terms you may hear at Brighton Park Elementary!

WIGs - Wildly Important Goals:  We set big goals for ourselves and keep track of our progress!

Mission Statements:  This helps us define what is important to us as a school, classroom community, and individual!

Big Rocks:  These are the most important ways that we spend our time and represent our priorities.
The 7 Habits Overview

Habit 1: Be Proactive - I am in charge of me!  Being proactive means being responsible, taking initiative, choosing a positive attitude, and taking ownership for your actions.

Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind - Have a plan!  Beginning with the end in mind means setting goals, understanding how our choices impact our future, and making plans.

Habit 3: Put First Things First - Do the important things first! Putting first things first means that we make a schedule, stay organized and focused, and prioritize our time on our Big Rocks

Habit 4: Think Win Win - Everyone can win! When you think win-win you look for solutions to problems, consider the feelings and needs of others, and are kind and cooperative.

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then be Understood - Listen before you talk!  When you seek first to understand, you listen without interrupting, try to understand people's experiences, and don't make assumptions about others.

Habit 6: Synergize - Together is better! Synergy means getting along well with others, valuing people's differences, and working together to achieve more.

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw - Balance feels best.  When you sharpen the saw you take care of your body, mind, and spirit.   You balance between work and play and reflect on ways to grow.

Habit 8: Find Your Voice and Inspire Others to Find Theirs - Use what you do well to help others!  When you find your voice you can identify your own strengths, look for ways to help others, and make the world a better place!
